The APC Screening Committee, led by Chief Obinna Uzoh, announced on Friday, December 5, that only two aspirants, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, successfully met all constitutional and documentary requirements.
Why Seven Aspirants Were Disqualified
According to the committee, the disqualified aspirants failed to satisfy the mandatory sponsorship rule outlined in the APC Constitution (Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii)) and the 2025 governorship primary guidelines. The requirement demands endorsement by at least five fully registered and financially updated APC members from each Local Government Area in the state.
The disqualified aspirants are:

* Babatunde Haketer Oralusi
* Oyedotun Babayemi
* Dr. Akinade Akanmu Ogunbiyi
* Benedict Olugboyega Alabi
* Adegoke Rasheed Okiki Adekunle
* Sen. Babajide Omoworare
The panel noted that gaps and inconsistencies in the submitted documents of the barred aspirants constituted a breach of core party regulations.
Internal Division Looms Over Osun APC
The committee raised concerns about lingering factional battles within the Osun APC, warning that unresolved disputes could undermine the credibility of the primary and jeopardize the party’s chances in the governorship election slated for August 8, 2026 by INEC.
It urged the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to urgently initiate a robust reconciliation process to unify the party’s political blocs, interest groups, and senatorial districts.
PDP Picks Candidate as Adeleke Exits Party
Meanwhile, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced Adebayo Adedamola as its governorship candidate for the 2026 election. This follows Governor Ademola Adeleke’s dramatic resignation from the PDP just hours before the primary.
