Police Kill Suspected Bandit In Kwara During Gun Duel

A suspected bandit has been killed following an exchange of gunfire between police operatives, local vigilantes and armed criminals in Adekanbi village near Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident occurred on Thursday when a combined security team moved to a hilltop where the armed group had reportedly taken position overlooking the community.

According to security sources, the bandits opened fire immediately they sighted the operatives approaching the location. The police team, supported by vigilantes, responded with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to flee with possible gunshot wounds.

In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kwara State Command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, confirmed the encounter and the recovery of the corpse of one suspected bandit after a sweep of the area.

She added that an AK49 rifle and 32 rounds of live ammunition were recovered at the scene.

“The operation is another significant success in our ongoing efforts to dislodge criminal elements across identified hotspots in Kwara State,” she said.

The PPRO urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely, actionable intelligence to security agencies to support the fight against crime.

Security operations have intensified in recent weeks following reports of bandit movement across border communities in the state.
