FCT Minister Wike Commends Progress on Key Projects Ahead of May Commissioning

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of major infrastructure projects ahead of their commissioning in May. During an inspection tour on March 12, 2024, he commended contractors, including Julius Berger and CGC, for maintaining high standards.

Key projects inspected include the 15-kilometer Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) from Ring Road 1 to Wasa Junction, the Life Camp to Karmo dual carriageway, and the N39 billion renovation of the International Conference Centre (ICC), which is 70% complete.

Wike urged FCT residents to cooperate with contractors to ensure timely completion, emphasizing that compensation had been paid years ago to affected communities. He dismissed fresh demands for additional compensation and alternative housing, stating that the government would only intervene in full community relocations.

On public transport, the Minister announced plans to partner with the private sector for an improved system, with bus terminals under construction. He also expressed disappointment over the misuse of youth empowerment vehicles, revealing that many beneficiaries had sold them instead of using them for business.

Wike highlighted his recent trip to Italy, where discussions with investors in agribusiness and vocational training are expected to create opportunities for FCT youths. He confirmed that multiple projects will be commissioned in May as part of activities marking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second anniversary in office.
