Wike Envisions FCT's Remarkable Transformation Beyond Political Borders"

ABUJA – Barrister Nyesome Wike, the recently inaugurated Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has quashed speculations about his potential switch to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Wike, who stands as the solitary opposition party representative in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's cabinet, has underscored that his primary purpose in the FCT is to instigate positive democratic changes and reinstate its former splendor.

During his inaugural press conference, the minister unveiled a comprehensive 10-point agenda aimed at various critical objectives, including enhancing security, improving urban sanitation, safeguarding the Abuja Master Plan, advancing infrastructure, revitalizing green spaces, eradicating informal settlements, addressing revenue discrepancies, and rectifying ground rent payments.

Addressing queries about the party flags he might align with as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike emphasized that the pressing concerns demanding immediate attention should take precedence over the party flag he chooses to display.

"Why should anyone be concerned about the party flag I hoist? Whether it's the PDP flag or the Labour Party flag, I am prepared to fly it. The current state of the FCT is worrisome, and I believe residents are more concerned about that than the party flag. My commitment is to restore the FCT to its original vision," stated Wike.

He added, "We are determined to elevate the FCT to its rightful position. Numerous individuals have expressed their dissatisfaction with the current state, which is far from what the founding fathers envisioned. Our first priority is addressing security issues and making the FCT an attractive holiday destination."

Wike also emphasized that his administration would provide the necessary resources to security agencies, acknowledging that security is a pivotal concern.

The minister announced his intention to overhaul the city's sanitation, eradicate slums and shanties that have emerged throughout the city, and reintroduce green spaces.

"Abuja's transformation into a slum city is concerning, with rampant waste accumulation. We will not tolerate this situation. Effective waste disposal practices will be implemented," Wike asserted.

He continued, "Unauthorized constructions will face consequences, and the city's green spaces and parks will be revitalized. Illicit land dealings will cease, preventing those who exploit the system from profiting."

"These objectives are part of our immediate plans to restore public trust in the government," concluded the minister.
