Residents of Sheikh Alimi Communities in Zango, Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, have appealed to the Senator representing Kwara Central, Sen. Saliu Mustapha, to include the Royal Valley–Kangile Road in his special intervention projects for urgent rehabilitation.
The communities had earlier lamented to the Kwara State Government over the deplorable state of the road, which they said has crippled movement, damaged vehicles, and made life unbearable for residents.
Their latest appeal followed a recent incident where a heavy truck got stuck in the muddy road, cutting off residents’ access to the Kulende–Harmony Estate Township Road in Sango.
Despite several appeals to the State Government, residents say they have received no assurance that the road would be fixed soon.
Speaking with *Geri Alimi Online* on condition of anonymity, one of the community leaders described the situation as a major security threat, adding that the poor state of the road has made night movement risky.
“Vehicles can no longer ply the route at night for fear of being attacked. The condition of the road forces drivers to move slowly to avoid deep potholes and stagnant muddy water, and that makes us easy targets,” he said.
A resident, Mr. Sani Adio, lamented the financial burden the road condition has placed on vehicle owners.
“I have taken my car to the mechanic more than six times this month alone and the month is still young. Only God knows how many more times I’ll go before it ends. That’s the condition of residents here,” he said.
Mr. Adio also decried the absence of basic amenities in the area.
“We are talking about the road, but what about electricity? There’s none. We don’t even have a transformer to power the community. Come here in the evening and you’ll see how dark the whole place is,” he added.
The residents, therefore, called on Sen. Saliu Mustapha to urgently come to their aid and rescue the community from the danger posed by the total collapse of the only accessible road to their area.
The affected areas include Sheikh Alimi Phase I and II, Kodijale, Harmony Estate Phases 1 to 4, Anuoluwapo, and Kangile Communities, all located immediately after Royal Valley Estate, Ilorin.
