Daring Abduction in Dawaki: Bandits in Military Uniform Kidnap 20 Residents

Some deadly gunmen disguised in military uniforms stormed the Dawaki community in Abuja, abducting at least 20 residents. The incident, occurring on Sunday evening, saw the heavily armed bandits operate for an hour, causing widespread panic among the densely populated area opposite Gwarinpa Estate.

Eyewitnesses described the attackers as numbering around 50, armed with various weapons, and conducting their operation with military precision. The bandits initially took 17 people from three houses near Fulani Junction, although five managed to escape during the chaotic retreat towards a nearby mountain.

The daring raid according to Daily trust online, prompted a swift response from DSS operatives, resulting in a fierce gun battle near Usuma Dam. While the operatives succeeded in rescuing some abductees, the bandits managed to escape, leaving behind two captured accomplices.

This incident follows a similar attack in Shagari Quarters, Dei-Dei, where kidnappers abducted the family of a Customs officer. Residents are increasingly alarmed by the surge in kidnappings, prompting some estates to arm their vigilantes.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, confirmed the incident and led a rescue operation through the Mpape hills, which forced the assailants to flee with bullet wounds. The rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention.

Community leaders and residents are urging the government to intensify security measures as fear grows over the escalating audacity of these criminal groups.
