Sanwo-Olu to Implement 35k Wage Award and Approves 50% December Bonus for Workers' Basic Salary.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has granted approval for a N35,000 wage award to the state's public servants. Simultaneously, the governor has sanctioned the payment of an end-of-year bonus equivalent to 50% of the basic salary for political appointees, public servants, employees of local governments and council development areas, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, and the Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps. The approval details were disclosed in a circular, bearing reference number CIR/HOS/'23/Vol. 1/ 109, and signed by the Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro.

The circular, titled '2023 End Of Year Bonus And Implementation Of Wage Awards,' explicitly states that Governor Sanwo-Olu's endorsement of these payments stems from his administration's recognition of the valuable contributions made by public servants towards the state's progress. Additionally, it reflects the governor's unwavering commitment to the welfare of these individuals. Furthermore, the circular specifies that both the end-of-year bonus and the wage award will be disbursed alongside the December 2023 salary, and notably, they will be treated as non-taxable elements.

Emphasizing the administration's gratitude towards public servants, the statement reads, "Mr. Governor has graciously approved the payment of 50% of basic salary as an end-of-year bonus." It further notes that the wage award, functioning as a palliative measure, is sanctioned pending the review of the national minimum wage. In urging public servants to continue delivering excellent and qualitative services aligned with the governor's THEMES+ Agenda, the circular calls upon heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to give wide-ranging publicity to the content of this announcement.
