Humanitarian Minister Initiates Construction of 40 Modern Toilets for Persons With Disabilities in Yangoji, Abuja Communities

(Yangoji, Abuja) - In a significant stride towards inclusive development, Nigeria's Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, marked a milestone today by laying the foundation stone for the construction of 40 modern toilets at the Alheri Leprosy Colony in Yangoji Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

This initiative fulfills a commitment made to the community in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. Represented by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Rasheed Olanrewaju, Dr. Edu emphasized President Tinubu's dedication to the well-being of persons with disabilities, referring to them not as disabled but as "persons with special abilities."

The Minister highlighted the end of neglect for the disabled community in Nigeria, reiterating President Tinubu's vision for their significant contribution to societal development. Dr. Edu announced the allocation of 10 percent of all social intervention programs to persons with disabilities, emphasizing their integral role in society.

Dr. James David Lalu, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, assured the completion of the project within two months, expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for fulfilling campaign promises. He commended Minister Edu for her commitment to ending neglect and reviving rehabilitation centers nationwide.

Alhaji Muhammed Abah Isah, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Disabilities, emphasized President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda's commitment to persons with disabilities, condemning societal stigmatization.

Representing the FCT Minister, Ibrahim Aminu Masari affirmed Yangoji's inclusion in the developmental agenda, praising Dr Betta Edu's commendable projects. The community was urged to view the project as their own and ensure protection against vandalism.

Speakers at the event, including Dr. Sani Umar, Director Social Welfare FCT, and Alhaji Dikko Dogo, Head of Alheri community, applauded President Tinubu and Minister Edu for delivering on their promises through the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
