NBA Member’s Detention Pitching them Against EFCC In Kwara – EFCC Spokeman

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Ilorin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) are at odds due to the detention of a lawyer, Suleiman Toyin Yahaya. The EFCC claims that the lawyer tampered with a suspect's statement during an ongoing investigation.

EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, expressed dismay at the NBA's response, accusing them of launching a media attack against the command and its leadership. Uwujaren also highlighted that the NBA remained silent on the alleged criminal act of its member, who was detained with a valid remand order but later released following a counter order of the court.

The NBA had previously criticized the Ilorin zonal command of the EFCC for not adhering to the rule of law and called for the transfer of the zonal commander. However, the EFCC countered by stating that legal representation for crime suspects falls outside its purview, and any allegations of unprofessional conduct by its personnel require concrete evidence for investigation.

The EFCC emphasized that all its operations in Ilorin have been conducted in accordance with the law, and no violations have occurred thus far. Nonetheless, the clash between the EFCC and the NBA continues as the lawyer's detention remains a contentious issue.
