NBA Demands Investigation of EFCC Officer Over Alleged Misconduct and Abuse of Power

The Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, held a press conference urging an investigation into the operations of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ilorin Zonal Command and its Zonal Commander, Michael Nzekwe. 

The statement signed by Aishat Omotayo Temim, Esq., Acting Chairperson of the NBA, Ilorin Branch, and Ridwan Musa, Esq., Publicity Secretary expressed concern over alleged misconduct and abuse of power by EFCC officials, stressing that all government agencies must adhere to the law. 

They condemned the reported instances of undignified treatment, limited access to legal representation, and the coercive practice of forcing arrested suspects to accept "EFCC-nominated lawyers" for their freedom.

The NBA also expressed concern about the alleged collaboration between some legal practitioners and EFCC officials in unethical practices, reminding their colleagues that such misconduct could lead to sanctions, including suspension or withdrawal of their licenses to practice law.
