Massive Fire Destroys Ilorin Mini Shopping Complex, Salvages Nearby Shops and Properties

A devastating fire incident struck Ilorin, Kwara State, resulting in the destruction of a mini shopping complex containing 20 shops and goods worth millions. The fire broke out at Fufu Street, Sabo-Oke area, in Ilorin East Local Government on Saturday morning, reportedly triggered by a power surge.

Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson for the state fire service, revealed that the emergency occurred at approximately 05:57 hours. The Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a distress call from Mr. Thomas, deploying their firefighting team to the scene.

The firefighters worked diligently, employing specialized equipment and techniques to contain and suppress the flames, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring establishments. Despite their efforts, one shop in the mini shopping complex suffered significant damage. Thankfully, the remaining shops and valuable properties within the building were saved from the blaze.

In light of this incident, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, issued a reminder to citizens. He urged them to adopt the habit of turning off electrical appliances, even before bedtime, to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks in homes, offices, and shops significantly. Such a proactive approach could help safeguard lives, properties, and livelihoods in the future.
