Executive Director of Agricultural Management and Rural Training Institute (ARMTI), Ilorin, Kwara State, Dr. Olufemi Oladunni, has said he almost died in his bid for another term as ARMTI director almost took his life.
Oladunni, during a thanksgiving service yesterday on completion of his first term in office and his reappointment, described career appointments under President Muhammadu Buhari as devoid of ethno-religious sentiments.
His reappointment, he added, was on merit, as no influential person facilitated it.
“I did not know anyone at my parent ministry, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. I was only concerned with my works. But I got to know later that the people that actually fought for my reappointment are not from my tribe or even of the same faith with me. This is a plus for the government of President Buhari,” he said.
The ARMTI boss, while narrating his ordeal during his quest for second term in office, said he was almost killed by some senior officers at the institute who were allegedly opposed to his reappointment.
His words: “Some of the people we employed here or given one form of assistance or another and even some top management staff stalled my letter for one month. They pursued me physically to kill me because of my second term bid. I had to change my accommodation in Abuja to evade their assassination attempts. Through it all, God kept me.
“I had a humble beginning. My father was an ordinary driver. But these people never gave me a breathing space. There was a time I was told that they were planning to set my building on fire. They truly wanted me disgraced out of office, but through it all, God kept me from their evil machinations.”
While thanking God for the opportunity to serve the nation again, Oladunni promised to be more committed to his duties and constant uplift of the status of the institute, primarily set up for agricultural rural management.
In his exhortation at the event, the retired Bishop of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Omu-Aran Diocese, Phillip Adeyemo, said the afflictions of the righteous were many, but God would always deliver them from every plan of the enemy.
Adeyemo urged the ARMTI boss to shun any act of vengeance but leave everything in God’s hands.
