Meet Abdullahi Yaman, the Kwara PDP Gubernatorial Candidate.

Alhaji Abdullahi Shuaib Yaman, a Nupe man from Edu local government area has emerged the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State. INSIDER NG first broke the news of his impending emergence as the governorship candidate of the opposition party in Kwara State before the sorting and counting of votes were concluded.

Yamman secured 518 votes to defeat two other aspirants, former House of Representatives member, Hon. Ahman Bahago Pategi who got 31 votes and a former Ambassador, Professor Gana Isa who secured 14 votes. The election was done in the presence of security agents and officials of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP governorship candidate, who was until last year a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a party on whose platform he aspired to govern the State in the 2019 elections, defected to the opposition party, PDP last year.

Born on the 17th May, 1961; Yaman attended NA Primary School, Shonga, from 1964 to 1969 and proceeded to Government Secondary School ( GSS), Omu-Aran from 1970 to 1974, after which he gained admission to study Business Administration in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU) from 1975 to 1979. He graduated as one of the best students with a Second Class Upper Division (2.1).

Abdullahi Yaman, whose popular political appointment was as a member of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), serve as the Executive Director, Agromatrix Nigeria Limited, the agricultural input company he started in 1988.

Abdullahi Yaman was previously a member of the Minerals and Metals National Technical Working Group for Vision 20:2020 in 2009; a member of the Nigerian Railway Board, 2004 to 2007; and Chairman, Railway Reform Implementation Committee, 2006 to 2007. He was also the chair of the committee responsible for investigating the problems of the nation’s railway network.

Between 2008 and 2011, he also served as member, Nigerian Railway
Board; member, National Sugar Development Council between 1992-1994 and member, Technical Committee on Sugar Development,1993-1994; member, Implementation Committee on Sugar Policy for Nigeria, 1991-1992.

If he wins the governorship election in 2023, Abdullahi Yaman would be ending the long break of Kwara North from the seat of power in the State which spanned over three decades.

The last governor from the northern senatorial district was Alhaji Shaaba Lafiagi who won the election on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) and governed between 1991 and 1992 before he was removed by the General Sani Abacha military government.
