Since the return of representative democracy to Nigeria in 1999 the journey so far in Kwara has been daunting yet not worthwhile.Why?Because Kwarans(except for a few anointed ones)have not had their due and fair share of dividends of democracy.For the vast majority in Kwara ultramodern hospitals,motorable roads,well-equipped schools,ease of securing gainful employment,vibrant economy,good governance,robust green revolution and so forth are things that exist in a utopian world.They have virtually never enjoyed such beautiful things because of the actions and inactions of a certain cabal that has been holding the system to ransom.These people have institutionalised political godfatherism in Kwara state the extent that they tend to carve out hegemony out of the state.It is an open secret that a political celebrity(or nonentity?) in the senate is remote controlling government business in Kwara from Abuja.He and his cronies think that Kwara is their personal concubine,whom they can treat or handle anyhow they fancy.
This is a nasty situation.As a matter of fact this is a social anathema by whatever standard.Here is the one million dollar question.Is there any beacon of hope around?Any ray of hope in the tunnel?
Lo Kwarans there is a beacon of hope if at all we care to look around.He is no other person than a capable son of the soil:Ahmed Mustapha Akanbi.I can't tell you what you don't know already about this gentleman.A great mobiliser,philanthropist,silent achiever,exemplary leader with a vision like that of an eagle.He had the best of education.He has all it takes to change the status quo.With the support of well-meaning Kwarans he can and will extricate the state from the snare of bondage,he can make Kwara a New York of the 21st century.
He is equal to the uphill task of building a New Kwara.All he needs is the mandate to prove his valour.Kwarans must not repeat their past mistakes else the posterity will not forget them.
Hence quickly get your PVCs and vote out Sarakism from Kwara come 2019.
